I grew up reading comic books wanting to be a superhero. Comics taught me that those who speak the truth are heroes, all the rest are liars.

An Un-American Wrong

Bu$h signed into law yesterday the Military Commissions Act of 2006 . With it’s passage has gone my belief in the American system of justice.

Today, the new Bu$h system will allow the executive branch of the government the power to detain people forever by declaring them an "unlawful enemy combatant," with no recourse to contest the validity of that detention in any tribunal. It was never the intent of the U.S. constitution to grant such a level of power to one branch without recourse or oversight. But in this bill, the President now possesses a defining authoritarian power - to detain and imprison people for life based solely on his say-so, while denying the detainee any opportunity to prove his innocence.

I read that the youngest detainee in Guantanamo was just fourteen years old when taken in custody. Today he’s eighteen and still in custody. No charges, no trail, no presentable evidence, no recource. Hopefully, your child won't suffer the same fate but with this new legislation, it's possible. It's just flat out un-American and wrong.
